Zigfrid Filipovics, residing in the municipality of Liedekerke in the province of Flemish Brabant and self-employed in the construction sector.

Zigfrid has been a pigeon enthusiast since he was 7 years old, previously focused mainly on fancy pigeons. In 2011 he moved with his family to Liedekerke, where he met his neighbor Arnaud Breynaert, who had racing pigeons, and with his help, Zigfrid began participating in pigeon races in 2013. Zigfrid: “As a beginner, I really enjoyed participating in the race solely with the young pigeons, but recently I’ve also been trying it with old and yearling pigeons. I love the different disciplines, from sprint to heavy middle distance.”

His pigeons are of the following lines: Heremans-Ceusters pigeons through the well-known breeding loft of Eddy Den Haese. From his neighbor Arnaud Breynaert he obtained the strain from Marcel Aelbrecht (especially the Bak 17 line) and ‘last but not least’ pigeons from Theo Huysegoms.

At the Filipovics residence, they have about 20-30 breeding pairs from which they breed around 120 youngsters. Around November 25, the breeding pigeons are paired, and they may raise a few rounds of young. When the youngsters are 6 weeks old, they go to the veterinarian for the paramyxo vaccination. In February-March, they vaccinate the young against smallpox. From March 15 to June 15, they keep the youngsters in the dark for 15 hours and in August, they are given additional light. Normally, the youngsters train for about one and a half hours, but for the past three years, they have had major problems with hawks or sparrowhawks, which has limited the youngsters' flying time significantly. The motivation with the young pigeons is done through the sliding door. Training the youngsters is intensive, starting at 1 km, especially to get the young used to the training basket. They then go to 2x3 km, 3x10 km, and 2x20 km. After this, they are sent out with the organization.

With the old pigeons, they don’t yet have a fixed play system, and in 2025 they want to try racing 16 widowers and 16 racing hens based on total widowhood.

As feed, they use Versele-Laga (Start Plus IC, Jerry Plus IC, Champions Plus IC, Junior Plus IC, Energy, Mutine Plus IC) about 30g per pigeon, and the feeding schedule from Versele-Laga is used as a guideline.

The supplements come from Oropharma Versele-Laga (B-Pure brewer's yeast, Dulcovit vitamins, Dextrotonic, Recup-Lyt, Hemolyt 40, Supervit vitamins, Form-Oil Plus, Garlic Oil, Intestinal Top triglycerides, Digestal intestinal stabilizer, Herbolan, Boost X5, etc.… the Versele-Laga schedule is also followed here.

For the health monitoring of the pigeons, they trust veterinarians Sabrina Van Vaerenbergh and Bjorn Geeroms, and during the racing season, the pigeons are checked every three weeks.

If you look at the results, you can find several Filipovics. This works as follows: At Zigfrid’s residence, there are 3 pigeon lofts. Each loft has its own name, one named after Zigfrid which has 3 compartments, one named after his children Adela & Daniel which has 2 compartments, and one named after Zigfrid’s wife Simona which has 7 compartments. This used to be the pigeon loft of Arnaud Breynaert. Now, due to work and little time for pigeons, the Filipovics family is going to focus back on one loft, namely Simona’s.

In conclusion, let’s let Zigfrid speak: “To perform at a high level, the most important factor is having good, smart, and quality pigeons. The second factor is the condition of the pigeon, and the third important factor is discipline.”

In this auction, the Filipovics family offers the best of the best. Children and grandchildren of their known pigeons such as Iron Man: 2nd Nat.Asduif KHF Young KBDB ’20, Anton: Father of Iron Man, Melisa: 1st Prov.Asduif Youth KBDB ’20, Arnaud 097: Top breeder, and so much more!
