A loft based on top fliers for the heavy middle-distance, including De Veseleer, Daan Roosen, Jellema, and Beens. In two parts, all summer young birds will be auctioned via Pitts, including a son of 520/22: 1st Provincial, 10th National, and 12th International Narbonne Yearlings 2023 with a Provincial lead of 13 minutes! Also included is another top bird, 189/21, which achieved 2x 1st in 2023 on Pau and Perpignan, with 2 young birds from the auction having a 4/4 in groups of 10.

Breeds

Both brothers Wouter (42) and Steven (47) were practically born as pigeon enthusiasts. Father Paul Noël was involved in sprint racing, and initially, only this discipline was practiced at the Noël household. Later, the brothers went their separate ways: Steven focused on sprint racing while Wouter concentrated on heavy middle-distance racing. For this, Wouter sought advice from proven fanciers like Alberic De Veseleer (Tollembeek): including a son of the 10th Nat Barcelona '17, Daan Roosen (Bocholt), and Uytterhaeghen – Van Dorpe (Balegem). In 2020, the brothers joined forces with the single aim of competing in International flights, and from then on, they have been racing from Gijzegem. Since then, good results have also been achieved with the contribution of a hen from Peter Bours (Averbode), a cock from Pierre Coppens (Moorsel), and 3 pigeons from Reginald Lievens from Smetlede. The breeds Jellema (including 3 grandchildren "Zwart Goud," 2 grandchildren Klein Kweekstertje, and recently 2 grandchildren Jill and a grandson OMG430) and Arjan Beens (including grandson "Frankenstein" x "Golden Future" and grandson "Dancing Moonlight") have been brought in with already notable results.

System

On December 7, 23 breeding pairs will be paired, resulting in 2 rounds of about 40 young pigeons each. With approximately 35 widowers and 45 racing hens, preference is given to international flights. The flying team does not breed in winter; they are raced in summer on eggs and are preferably basketed during breeding. There is no darkening used by the Noël brothers, but the young pigeons do receive some extra light from August 1 until the last training flight to keep them in good plumage. These young pigeons are simply kept together and generally do not go to nest. In recent years, they were trained to Noyon or Sermaises and flew, later in the year, Quiévrain and the Round of Belgium to gain experience. Later, as yearlings and adults, they are typically first sent away on their own and then part of the team from Quiévrain via Noyon and Sermaises to the preparatory flights for heavy middle-distance races.

Medical and Nutrition

Before and after the season, checks are made by Vincent Schroeder, and treatment is administered based on the results of those checks. During the season, a general check is done with veterinarian Van Den Broeck in Lebbeke, who also takes care of vaccinations against paramyxovirus. Treatment is administered if deemed necessary based on his advice. Furthermore, the pigeons are vaccinated each year against pox and paratyphoid.

In terms of nutrition, up to the heavy middle-distance, a mixture of half cleansing and half molting is provided. From the heavy middle-distance onwards, it becomes half molting and half diet, with the last days before basketting giving an extra fat-rich mixture, all from dealer Van Extergem from Appels and Paloma.

Additionally, Aviol is regularly added to the drinking water, and after the flight, protein powder and electrolytes are given for smooth recovery.

Results

In 2021, they started with an inexperienced team mainly consisting of yearlings and two-year-olds and participated for the first time in all 7 International flights. The loft is still under development, but they can already look back on a successful season for 3 years, highlighted by the 1st Provincial Narbonne Yearlings 2023.

2 hens in the spotlight

  • 520/22 “Young Sparrow” 1st Provincial, 10th National and 12th International Narbonne Yearlings 2023 with a Provincial lead of 13 minutes!

In her last training flight from Argenton, she also arrived as 1st at the loft and flew the 18th out of 254 yearlings. She was bred from a cock directly from Gilbert Van Hassel in Zele, breed Roger Vereecke, who is already the father of several top birds. He was paired with the Spreeuw. The Spreeuw herself flew as an 18-month-old the 9th National in the tough Perpignan in 2019 at 917m/min and locally flew 1h22 ahead. She is in turn a daughter from the foundation hen 270/16 paired with her own brother 850/16, both from Daan Roosen with a lot of Jellema in the pedigree and foundation ancestor Polleke of Daan.

  • “Olympia” 189/21: 10th Belgian Olympiad pigeon Marathon '22-'23

flies in 2023 locally 2x to victory: 1/74 Pau, Nat 84/3080; 1/60 Perpignan, Nat 138/5722 and also flew 10/255 Agen, Nat 329/7331, 16/169 Narbonne, Nat 506/6013 in 2022. This hen therefore flies 4/4 per 10 on the heavy middle-distance with 2x 1st locally! She is a 100% Jellema product from the lines of Zwart Goud and his granddaughter Klein Kweekstertje. Again, the father was bred from a sibling x sibling pairing, and likewise, more good racing pigeons have already been bred from this line.
