Wilfried Hallaert from Lichtervelde clearly feels perfectly at home in his role as an "underdog": no big words, no sophisticated systems and always with both feet firmly on the ground. And most likely, that is precisely where the strength of this loft lies! With a limited number of racing pigeons, Wilfried regularly manages to achieve astonishing results. As for the origins of this colony, we can be fairly brief: since 2019, almost everything can be traced back to one foundation pair obtained from Decru-Devriendt (Sint-Michiels, Bruges), namely the outstanding foundation cock βDynamiteβ (strain Gaston Van de Wouwer x Roose-Pyra) paired with a hen from Dirk & Bart Delodder from Waregem. These pigeons have the ability to excel from sprint races right through to the demanding middle-distance races, exactly the way Wilfried likes them!
Unfortunately, for medical reasons, the decision was made to bring his pigeon racing career to an end, and all pigeons will be offered for auction through Pitts. Having to leave the sport at an absolute peak is regrettable, but at the same time it also brings a sense of satisfaction. An excellent opportunity for buyers to acquire proven top-quality pigeons!
We would like to illustrate the promising prospects this auction offers potential buyers with the information below. We will begin by highlighting the most recent results achieved with the young birds. These made 2026 a truly successful year, causing interest in this auction to grow considerably in the immediate surroundings.

Due to the well-known summer weather conditions, the decision was made this year to concentrate mainly on races of around 200 km with the young pigeons. This is worth mentioning because Wilfried actually prefers middle-distance races and even somewhat longer distances. However, the high temperatures this year and the upcoming auction called for a cautious approach. For Wilfried, it undoubtedly became a successful year that many fanciers would gladly wish for. And as is sometimes said: "Anyone who clocks pigeons ahead of Wilfried this year has a very good chance of winning first prize." This is certainly noticeable week after week: in normal weather conditions, both old and young pigeons achieve numerous top positions.
Breeding foundation
As for the origins of Wilfried's pigeons, we can be fairly brief: since 2019, almost everything can be traced back to one foundation pair obtained from Decru-Devriendt, Sint-Michiels Bruges. This partnership was previously a formidable competitor and ended its highly successful pigeon racing career due to the advanced age of G. Devriendt.
The pair 1 in question consists of a cock βDynamiteβ (strain Gaston Van de Wouwer, Berlaar x Roose-Pyra, Bekegem) paired with a hen from Dirk & Bart Delodder, Waregem. Almost all descendants have been capable of winning first prizes since 2019, and the breeding results were almost invariably successful, which is truly exceptional. Unfortunately, βDynamiteβ (3001029-17) is no longer fertile as of this year, but there is no reason for concern: his sons and daughters (also crossed with other strains) are producing excellent successors. At one point, Wilfried therefore had 8 sons, 5 (grand)sons, 8 daughters, etc. of βDynamiteβ x βDelodderβ in his breeding loft.
Furthermore, inbreeding within this bloodline also produced surprising successes. A perfect example is what Wilfried calls his βSuper Breeding Pairβ (pair 2). A breeding combination created in a very remarkable way (2 brothers with 2 sisters), resulting in top pigeons every year. It is worth taking a closer look:
Breeding sire is 3050189-21 (bred from a son of Dynamite 931-19 paired with a hen of the Placied Buysse strain 099-20)
Breeding dam is 3050115-21 (bred from a son of Dynamite 115-21 paired with a hen of the Placied Buysse strain 100-20, sister of 099-20).
This super pair produced the following champion pigeons: 249-22, 250-22, 337-23, 338-23, 371-23, 409-24, 462-24, 575-25. Moreover, this exceptional inbreeding combination consistently produces highly successful descendants.
Building on these foundation pairs, further experiments were naturally carried out to establish additional new breeding pairs. And so, last year, Wilfried discovered a true champion hen 25-3016511.
Parents of 25-511 (pair 3) are his 3055349-23 (sire) and 3067089-20 (dam, strains Johan Delanghe, Oostkamp x Koen Goubert, Brakel).
Indeed, 25-511 managed to win first prize twice (in the combined competition of 11 clubs of the Houtlandverbond), each time even several minutes ahead of the second prize winner. A real βlightning boltβ, as one had to be extremely attentive to spot this little pigeon upon its return. Hence the name βde Schichtβ hen.
Her most important results:
Vitry 12/451
Clermont 42/447 and 166/4030
Clermont 1/593 and 1/3723
Clermont 8/473 and 77/5151
Clermont 1/284 and 1/4085
It therefore goes without saying that these parents were paired together again for breeding in 2026. This resulted in 3 young pigeons (the father was, however, retained as a racing cock), namely 3047605-26, 606-26 and 680-26. The results of these 3 youngsters include: 605 achieved 7 top 10% prizes, 606 achieved 6 top 10% prizes and 680 achieved 7 top 10% prizes, each with several positions among the first 10 in the results. This confirmation of another exceptional breeding pair speaks for itself.
The 26-680 achieved the following top results (5 sprint races for a combined 3.51%)
Clermont 2nd (behind loftmate)/465 and 9/3965
Clermont 5/526 and 14/4314
Clermont 9/294 and 36/2531
Roye 6/220 and 18/1538
Roye 3 (behind loftmate)/187 and 4/1050 Furthermore 276/4067, 335/5981 β¦ !!!
These super pigeons, brothers (including nest brother 25-512, who also proved successful in breeding!) and sisters, as well as their parents, will be offered in this auction. Anyone who is not interested in these pigeons apparently has no intention of strengthening their own loft for the future!
The breeding pairs described above clearly demonstrate that the Wilfried Hallaert loft rightly possesses exceptional breeding talent. These are certainly no one-day wonders and therefore provide both direct and indirect assurance of successful inheritance of breeding qualities.
When describing the breeding pairs that form the core of the Hallaert loft, we would also like to provide some additional explanations concerning Wilfried's successes. He always chooses to compete in the strongest club in the region, and since this year that has been the combined competition of the Torhout pigeon clubs. It is therefore hardly surprising that the results achieved in this competition usually also rank very highly in WVS zone A1 & the Houtlandverbond, where several clubs compete together.
In addition to the aforementioned strains that form the core of the Hallaert loft, we should also mention the introduction of pigeons obtained from Erik Degang from Koolskamp, Eddy Hubrecht from Sint-Andries and Willy Claeys, Handzame. Recently, joint breeding was also carried out with Mario Vandekerckhove, Ingelmunster. The pedigrees of several pigeons also reveal a limited but successful contribution from a few other well-known pigeon fanciers.
Breeding and racing with the old birds
Racing with the old birds is done exclusively with cocks. This year, the young birds (both sexes) were raced on widowhood for the first time. A note in this regard: last year, the young birds were raced on the nest, but a disastrous race at the beginning of the season resulted in numerous losses, particularly among the young cocks. The remaining cocks were stopped racing very early in preparation for racing with the old birds in 2026. Unfortunately, this also got off to a disastrous start when four yearlings returned injured from a single training flight in spring, making them practically unfit for further racing. Nevertheless, this did not prevent Wilfried from achieving excellent results with the remaining old birds, even though the number of yearlings had almost immediately been halved.
As for the breeding period, one round is bred from the racing birds and two rounds from the breeding birds at the beginning of December. Afterwards, a few birds are occasionally selected to be retained directly for the breeding loft.
Wilfried has few secrets when it comes to daily care. Before the start of the season, he consulted a veterinarian who outlined a preparatory programme, which he followed strictly. This certainly proved to be a positive contribution to getting the pigeons ready for the season and keeping them healthy. Like many fanciers, he occasionally treats against trichomoniasis and administers vitamin supplements weekly, which has proven beneficial.
Successful 2025 season
In just over one month, Wilfried managed to win first prize three times in provincial zonal races, each time competing against several thousand pigeons.
5 July: Clermont, Wijnendale club 1/591 and Houtlandverbond West Flanders (combined competition of 11 clubs) 1/3723
12 July: Fontenay, Wijnendale club 1/103 and West Flanders Zone A1 1/1824
9 August: Clermont, Wijnendale club 1/284 and Houtlandverbond West Flanders 1/4085
Every pigeon fancier knows very well that winning first prize in such provincial races is no easy feat, but achieving this three times within such a short period is truly exceptional. The βSchichtβ hen 511/25 played a major role in this achievement, winning first prize twice (in the combined competition of 11 Houtlandverbond clubs), each time finishing several minutes ahead of the second-place pigeon!

At the Wijnendale-Torhout club, Wilfried limits himself to sprint and middle-distance races due to the local racing programme, but longer distances certainly pose no problem for him. A fine example is 057/20, which achieved the following outstanding results during its racing career (results from the last three years), despite having been entered only a limited number of times in the more demanding middle-distance races.
2023: Fontenay 61/1752, Orleans 6/849 and 17/5502, Chateaudun 6/432 and 40/3242 β¦ (6x in the top 10% over 8 races)
2024: Toury 24/931 and 108/7500, Chateauroux 2/577 and 13/4946 β¦ (5x in the top 10% over 8 races)
2025: Vierzon 3/698 and 65/6480 β¦ (stopped racing after a disastrous race)
From 2022 onwards, greater emphasis was placed on administratively recording both the origins of the pigeons (preparing pedigrees) and their racing results. Previously, records were kept only sporadically, meaning that pedigrees for the oldest pigeons may or may not be extensively available, depending on the research required. Saying goodbye to pigeon racing after such a successful season is naturally regrettable, but on the other hand, it clearly demonstrates that the quality of this loft offers every prospect of success in the near future.
