Since childhood, Wilfried Bruyneel has been involved with pigeons. Years ago, he raced in tandem with Betrand Bettens from Mater, where only young pigeons were raced.
After his career as a hairdresser, Wilfried settled on the Boskant in Mater, and from then on, the overnight flights became his goal.
In his quest for pigeons for the extremely heavy work, he came across the legendary Georges Carteus. The entire colony of Wilfried consists of about 80% origin from Carteus! Later on, he also received successful contributions from, among others, Marcel Vandenabeele (Ronse), Etienne Devos (Deerlijk), Brockamp, and Chris Hebberecht (Evergem).
In 2010, Wilfried won 1st International Perpignan against no less than 15,857 old pigeons. Unfortunately, he fell ill shortly after, and all the pigeons were put up for sale, with the exception of about 20 young pigeons. With these promising young pigeons, a lineage was rebuilt for his beloved discipline: the heavy long-distance.
System of simplicity
At the Bruyneel home, the breeders come together in January for the first laying. This round goes to Jan Haesaert (Mater), who has also achieved a whole series of top results with Wilfried's pigeons. Later, three more rounds are bred for personal use. The intention is for the young pigeons to fly Noyon at least 2 more times. As a yearling, they will then participate in 2 long-distance races and are raced as "fathers": without a hen, without motivation, just coming home is the message. From the age of 2, they are then prepared for the heavy long-distance.
In terms of nutrition, Wilfried chooses Versele-Laga: breeding, molting, and sport.
