With the total sale in 2021, the relatively short but intense empire of Poppe-Ingels came to an end. All pigeons were sold in one go, with the exception of a few pigeons to breed for participation in One Loft Races. These last descendants of this glorious family are now also up for auction.

History
Willy Poppe (74) grew up in a real pigeon fancier family in Sinaai-Waas. As a 20-year-old he took care of the pigeons of his father who was struggling with health problems. Due to Willy's busy profession as ultimately responsible for the paint shop at Volvo Cars Ghent, there was no time for hobbies, but it always remained dormant in his mind to still play with pigeons as a pensioner. In 2011 it was initially quietly started with a few pigeons from Schoors–De Waele as a basis. The eventual real start was not forthcoming, but from 2016 the tandem went pretty hard. The pigeons stayed in Maldegem, at the time the home of brother-in-law and tandem mate Ingels. In Eeklo near Willy itself there was no possibility to keep pigeons due to urban planning regulations. Due to the illness of his brother-in-law and initial tandem partner, Willy was forced to stop his hobby and auctioned all pigeons through Pitts in 2021, with the exception of a few pigeons to breed for participation in One Loft Races. However, not much came of these plans. Willy eventually learned his pigeons and took part in a few flights with considerable success, but in the end everything is now being sold, including some recently acquired pigeons from Roger Debusschere, among others.
The basis was formed by
Schoors-De Waele (Van Loon, old strain Vincke.1st Nat Derby…)
Gaby Vandenabeele (Big Fideel, Lightning, Maurice, Rudy…)
Dirk Van Dyck (DiCaprio, Olympic Niels, Cannibal…)
Chris Hebberechts (Champion, Ike, Jaws, Panda…)
Patrick Houfflijn (Vandenabeele, Geronimo,…)
Frederik Everaert (Vandenabeele, Mirage, Iceberg,..)
Rik Cools (Vandenabeele, Molleke, Dannea, Kapoen, …)
Gaston De Wouwer (cheese farmer, blue Gaston..)
Benny Steveninck (Chipo, Chiaut 100…)
Gay Freres (Cassaert, Loulou 1st Nat Bourges…)
Eyerkamp (Van Loon, Don Leo, Chicago,…)
Purchased 2020 through Roger Debusschere:
Etienne Meirlaen (Marathon Lady, Yelena, Monar…)
Dufermont (daughter 1st Nat Jarnac…)
Martial Maindrelle (Silk, Deep impact…)
Poppe-Ingels formed his breeding loft from these bloodlines: 16 cocks and 24 hens, partly for re-coupling in the 2nd/3rd round. From the first and second round, about 80 youngsters were bred, divided as 2x 40 pieces and further 20 pieces from the 3rd round. Only 12 widowers and 12 racing hens were kept from this.
Young pigeons
The youngsters were darkened from the end of February to the beginning of June and then lighted from two weeks after the longest day until the last national race. They stayed together in the apprenticeship period until Clermont and then came on the sliding door. At the end of the season, eggs were sometimes laid to put them on the nest, but they did not have any young. Willy let them get used to the basket by staying overnight. Later it went in small steps (12x) from 1.5km to 30km. The last laps they were released separately with a small interval, then 2x Arras, 2x Clermont and then the short middle distance. Also regularly on Wednesdays during the racing season. The national race from Bourges was seen as a final test for further stay in the lofts.
Total widowhood with the old pigeons
The old and yearling racing pigeons were coupled simultaneously with the second round of the breeders and they were also darkened, this from February 1 to April 1. 14 days before the first extreme middle distance race, they were immediately enlightened. The partners came together for about 30 minutes before basketing and stay together after returning home from the extreme middle distance until the next day. During four days they were trained together in steps up to 30 km, then towards the big basket: 1x Arras and 2x Clermont. The yearlings received an extra flight from Arras in the wings.
- Medical and Nutrition
The mixtures used belong to the Natural Finesse range: light, breeding, moulting and sport. During the racing season, an additional supplement was given with Turbo extreme from Matador. The Natural range is also preferred in terms of by-products: vitamins, vitamins, garlic oil and electrolytes. Further additions consist of our own brew based on garlic and onion (a variant on Gust's bottle), apple cider vinegar, Cede egg food, Piksteen and super grit from Vainqueur, 'Grune Erde', 'Actieves Eisen' and 'Hepatoveto'.
Veterinarians Wim Boddaert, Ruben Lancriet and Stijn Coucke took care of the checks and the vaccinations against Paramyo, Herpes, Circo and Smallpox (with a brush).
lofts
The breeders were housed in large aviaries, the racing pigeons and the youngsters on one to the east
oriented garden shed, completely waterproofed on the south and west side with bitumen corrugated sheets, a tiled roof with an open ridge, the west side insulated for heating and cooling at night and to avoid cold rain from the west in the spring. The bottom was double insulated and fitted with wooden floor grids for ease of maintenance (monthly or bimonthly cleaning depending on the season and the weather).
