An extremely small colony of exceptionally fast pigeons! This tandem from Heusden in Limburg focuses on sprint racing with young pigeons. And the competition will know that! Last year they achieved the 1st Provincial As Pigeon KBDB Speed Young Pigeons 2021, and this year they have come back quite sharp!
Since 1970, Jos has been active in the pigeon sport. Originally, they played both speed and small middle distance, but in recent years, pure sprint has preferred at Vanbrabant-Dams. Due to busy work circumstances, a few years ago, Jos Vanbrabant and his wife had to limit themselves to racing with young pigeons. In the powerful game of West Limburg, against thousands of pigeons weekly, they already achieved great success then. Meanwhile, it has become a habit to focus entirely on racing with young pigeons, and how!
The success train at Vanbrabant started with the input of pigeons from club members François Custers and Robert Bielen. Currently, 70% of this colony has Custers blood in their veins! In crossing with foundation sire 016/09, coming from Robby Willems from Mol, top pigeons were born (including 'Special One': 4th nat. as pigeon 2014). Also from this couple came “Uno” (532/11), a fabulous breeding hen, mother and grandmother of many 1st prize flyers.
Also, at Lucien & Johan Vandebroek in nearby Zolder, a son of their car winner from Orléans 2003 was obtained (this male pigeon flew among others 1/2140 Melun) and from the top colony in Berbroek of Maarten Poels, something came from the line of the “Veritas hen”.
System
20 breeding pairs are coupled at the end of November and will produce about 60 young pigeons over 2 rounds. These are darkened until the longest day, but not lit. In terms of motivation, they are put on widowhood. Leading up to the races, they are brought to 25 km in about 5 stages and then they go with the club. Once racing starts, they are no longer tasked.
The feeding system is quite simple: they receive breeding mix until they fly well, and then they switch to Galaxy light from Beyers. The supplements consist of brewer's yeast, tea, and lots of garlic.
Veterinarian Carlo Van Rompaey is responsible for the mandatory vaccinations and periodic check-ups. Treatment is only given on his advice.
