19-03-24 Announcement from the KBDB regarding the approved devices 2024 and home timing
The AEC (Advisory Committee for Electronic Timing) completed the 2024 testing campaign last week. The project started in October with a meeting involving the 6 manufacturers that provide equipment in the Belgian market, after which the new Standard-2024 was published in December. Three manufacturers applied for homologation tests for modified or new products. All were tested and, after several adjustments, approved.
- Bricon: new software for PASbox, PASclub, and PASslave. This aims to reduce the number of false-positive “secret code” errors.
- Benzing: two new clocks (M2 and M3) were submitted for approval. These clocks also allow “home timing,” in combination with the SmartHub module to the GSM network.
- Tipes: the clock MC-2100 now also permits “home timing,” in combination with an adapter module to the Internet. Additionally, new club software was developed that allows for online linking.
Finally, several extensions and adjustments have been made to the FFS (Federation Flight Server) of the KBDB. The FFS performs a number of validations on links, registrations, and confirmations. Validations that fail are printed with an error code or warning code on the link list, registration list, or results list. A negative validation currently does not automatically lead to the exclusion of the involved pigeon. This is only the case for “secret code error” and for “overlapping timings,” as was previously the case.
Home timing is possible from the 2024 season with the clocks Benzing-M2, Benzing-M3, and Tipes MC-2100. These clocks must still be present at the registration (inkorving), unlike the PASbox. Of course, with these clocks, timing can still be done in the usual way at the club, but the enthusiast can also choose to perform the timing at home. A requirement here is that the club's timing software can retrieve the results list of the involved enthusiast from KBDB-ADMIN.
For home timing, enthusiasts will need to take action themselves. With Benzing, this is done via the keypad and an antenna of the clock; with Tipes, via the Motz Computer website.

For the 2024 season, the KBDB maintains the provisional measures of the Belgian Competition Authority, as stated on the KBDB website. This means that all clocks and software that were approved in 2022 are still allowed to be used. This includes that the KBDB still tolerates the old linking software from UNIKON. The KBDB wants to point out that the links made with the UNIKON setup do not automatically reach the FFS, which may result in validations by the FFS not being correct.
