Listing their top performances is almost impossible. Trying to beat them in the long distance races turns out to be even more difficult. At Agen this year 3rd and 9th national with two half-brothers of “Remco” who won 1st Nat. Agent won! Good blood clearly doesn't lie...
Load distribution and loft file
Father Fernand Malfait (77) started in 1969 as an independent coachbuilder and in 1972 he started with pigeons in the middle distance. Even as a youngster Serge was also passionate about the pigeon sport and after years of success in the middle distance, the switch was made to the long distance and extreme long distance. Serge (49) now runs a garage in Jabbeke with his youngest brother. Although father is now retired, he still helps out as much as possible in his sons' garage. Fernand takes care of the racing team at home, which consists of about 25 old pigeons and about 30 yearlings, while Serge takes care of the breeding pigeons that are housed with him and pairs them. Together they decide which pigeons will be entered on which flights.
Every year, about 100 youngsters from 14 breeding pairs are ringed. From this limited breeding loft, breeding is carried out all year round in order to have as many youngsters as possible – especially late youngsters – from the best old birds. In addition, a lot of inbreeding is also done.
Care
At Malfait, purification is fed at the start of the season, only from 2 nights in the basket sport is on the menu and from 4 different brands, always full. The lofts are never cleaned during the season and the vet only visits before the season and when it is really necessary. Every 2 to 3 weeks something is given against trichomonas. The early youngsters are only trained and the late youngsters never even see a basket in their year of birth. As a yearling, the trained youngsters are taken to Agen and the late ones race 2 to 3 national middle distance races and preferably 1 one day long distance. As a two-year-old, they must be able to be used on all flights.
Memorable Agent
For Fernand and Serge Malfait, the best victory was the one over the tough Agen in 2019: “It had been sweltering all week and the release was postponed by a day. On the day of the liberation the temperatures rose to above 35° and not a single Belgian pigeon reached his loft that same day. At 04:24 am 'Remco' fell on the valve! He won the 1st national Agen old birds with 1 hour and 10 minutes ahead of all 8579 Belgian pigeons. Only three pigeons reached the 800m/min then...”
2 half-brothers (same father as Remco!) also proved that this clapper was cut from the right wood this year from Agen: in the yearlings, father and son Malfait easily won the 3rd and 9th national against 7,331 pigeons and this with the 1st and 2nd signed!
stock building
The first long distance pigeons at Malfait were Dordin pigeons. In 1983 one flew 20th international against 3423 pigeons from Lourdes and 3 weeks later 22nd international Perpignan against 3589 opponents. This immediately became the first stock pigeon of the colony. Later, 'De Olympiade' was added as the second stock pigeon. This became Olympiad pigeon long distance Gran Canaria with the following prizes:

In 1996 a son of 'De Olympiade' won 1st international Dax and a grandson 'Bettini' became the next stock pigeon with, among other things, 1st national Dax 2004. 'Bettini' was not ready for his test piece because as a 2-year old he already became 12th national ace pigeon extreme long distance KBDB with ao:

'Monsere' (3158706/2013)
won as a yearling 186th national Poitiers against 14094b.
As an 18-month-old he became 3rd national ace pigeon extreme long distance KBDB
with 19th national Agen 3524p, 186th national St Vincent 3037p and 38th national Perpignan 5254p.
As a pedigree, this topper is 100% Carteus on the father's side and is inbred to the 'Bonte Barcelona' (4th nat Perpignan and 69th nat Barcelona).
His mother was a granddaughter of the above mentioned 'Bettini' 1st national Dax and from the line of the world famous 'Didi' of Etienne Devos, 1st national ace pigeon long distance KBDB.
'Ludo' (6302965/2014)
was born in September 2014 and won 19th Fontenay 1264p, 843rd nat Limoges 13493p, 36th nat Cahors 6174p, 547th nat Libourne 5195p and as icing on the cake 1st national Jarnac against 4167 pigeons and fastest of 8071 pigeons!
His father won 17th and 21st national Montelimar and was an inbred product to again 'Didi' from Etienne Devos, 1st national ace pigeon long distance KBDB.
