Help with Master's Research
"For my Master's research at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University, I am looking for fecal samples from pigeons. The research focuses on the presence of endoparasites in pigeon feces (think of worm eggs and coccidiosis). The aim of this research is to gain more insight into the health of pigeons in the Netherlands. The study focuses on identifying and counting intestinal parasites through fecal analysis. For this, I am collecting samples from pigeons in different environments: free-flying pigeons (city pigeons), pigeon lofts, and private ownership. Additionally, the study investigates whether there is a possible correlation between plumage color and the occurrence of parasites in pigeons. Your assistance is particularly needed to collect samples from the different color groups (white, blue, check, red).
This study is a continuation/expansion of an existing research project, 'Pigeons in the City', led by Dr. Vivian Goerlich.
This is a minimally invasive study for the pigeons, where the only interaction involves collecting their feces. This means there will be no direct contact with the pigeons themselves. If you choose to participate in this study, your personal data will be handled with care. It will not be made public in the final thesis and will be fully anonymized.
