No one on earth has played with pigeons as fervently as Gabriël Kint. Big names in international pigeon racing have drawn from this fountain of knowledge and pigeons, resulting in an enormous list of references! Even in his 91st year, Gabriël remains an icon from whom many can learn. Pitts has the greatest honor of organizing the total sale of this master from Ooigem.

History

Through two turtledoves he received from his uncle for his 6th birthday, Gabriël Kint was enlisted at a young age into the brotherhood of pigeon lovers. Over the years, he, along with his three years younger brother Daniël, built a colony of super pigeons that many enthusiasts can only dream of. Pigeon lovers from his home country, but also from the Netherlands, Germany, Hungary, Austria, Japan, and China flocked to Ooigem, and they knew damn well why!

Anyone who knows Gabriël will undoubtedly understand why we gladly let him have the floor. Enjoy his story:

Foundation Birds

Foundation pigeon 1: DYNAMO 3223368/92 comes from the old breeding pair of neighbor Dr. Paul Volckaert and produced many top flyers in the large half-fond through children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Dynamo is the grandfather of no less than 43 different 1st prize winners large half-fond in his own loft, including 4x 1st provincial.

Foundation pigeon 2: OUD WITPENNEKE 3255344/90 comes from the old breeding pair of Pol Vervaeck (old strain Gebroeders Ameye (Deerlijk)). He won the first prize for 4 consecutive weeks, became the 3rd provincial ace pigeon half-fond, and is the brother of super pigeon 142/89 (1st Orléans with a 5-minute lead) and also brother of the 1st provincial ace pigeon half-fond 1989 with only 0.92% over 4 races!

These 2 foundation pigeons were each individually paired with their offspring in the closest blood relationship to preserve their qualities, showing exceptional results when crossed with one another. The intended result was to breed only 2 strains into 1 pigeon. Acquired pigeons were only used once and then bred back to the old base pigeons. Perfect line breeding was applied here.

Both foundation pigeons produced top pigeons in both the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generations on the large half-fond up to 600km.

No less than 260 pigeons from his loft achieved top performances in provincial and national races, calculated from 0% to 3%. No prizes were even reported from 4% to 10%! All prizes and results were kept and are still perfectly verifiable, from races with 1000 to 8 to 10,000 pigeons! Many enthusiasts succeeded with these pigeons, and not the least of them. Especially Japan, China, and Germany showed great interest in these strongly inbred pigeons. If a line was set up and the crosses did not fly well, the new addition and the product were removed.

Reinforcements

In 2006, through Noël Claerhout, a male and a female were introduced from 'son Wittenbuik' x 'granddaughter Wittenbuik', which, when crossed with the Dynamo strain, immediately provided satisfaction. Six full brothers from this line are still present at the breeding loft.

In 2010, reinforcement came from 2 females from Patrick Verhue (inbreeding father x daughter, pure strain John Meurysse) and when crossed again with the Dynamo strain, produced several 1st prize winners. Currently, 18 offspring from this pair are also in the breeding loft.

In 2016, we acquired a male from Georges Soenens from his breeding pair (still having lineage in both parents from Dynamo). This male is the brother of super breeder “Georges” at Chris Debacker.

In 2017, a male from Ronny D’Hoop was acquired, with lineage Inbreeding Ulrich '97 (Norbert Ally x Chris Debacker). This male paired with ‘Ad-female’ from Bevers immediately produced 2 young that did exceptionally well up to Limoges national (615km). They also produced very good offspring crossed with our foundation pigeons.

*383/20: Blois 400km 1/1048 (0.09%), interprovincial 4/6907 (0.05%)

*384/20 Blois 20/1048 (1.90%), interprovincial 105/6907 (1.52%)

                Fontenay 1/557 (0.17%), provincial 10/8334d (0.11%)

Playing Style

Gabriël: “As I (now 91) was solely responsible for the care, I had to specialize. Daniël (88) did all the paperwork perfectly and the handling of the pigeons. He never went into the loft and never held a pigeon. Everyone had their task. However, we went together to basket the pigeons: I placed the pigeons in the basket and my task was done, the rest was done by my brother. After the race, I never went to the local, but always took care of the pigeons after their arrival.

Two rounds were bred. The young males were given away so that only about 60 young females remained. These were all paired off around June 8 with 20 old males in a neighboring loft with special boxes. The young females were next to them in 2 compartments with small boxes. A few hours before basketing, I let around 40 young females stay with the males, in turns. The remaining 20 had to leave from a darkened loft, in which I played the cooing sounds of males via a tape recorder. They flew towards it like rats! Upon returning home, they were first fed and then received their male in turns. After a few weeks, this number had halved and the tape recorder was no longer needed... At the end of the season, everything was put on nests so that they could finish the last race with a young bird of 8 days, with which they stayed alone for 3 days.

Total sale October 2022

Pitts is pleased to present the total sale of the Kint brothers in one part of 66 pigeons in this exclusive online auction. Due to their advanced age, both brothers feel compelled to stop as they do not want to impose the care duties on others. For this reason, they have not raced themselves for the past 2 years, but the young pigeons were successfully tested on several other lofts by about 4 (young) enthusiasts. All pigeons were selected with the utmost rigor, as has been the custom at Kint's house for decades, and there is no mixing of breeds; rather, a solid strain that stems from proven breeding pigeons! “Three old males are offered in couple sale with one of their daughters, so the strain can be kept pure when you pair these fathers with their daughter. Because to this day, these males still sire!” says Gabriël. “A few other very old pigeons are simply retained because we cannot guarantee fertilization. Two pigeons cannot be sold: ’Georges’ 104/14 and ‘the Ad-female’ 196/17. They were obtained for free from Georges Soenens and Herman Bevers respectively and have already been returned to their owners. However, these are woven into nearly all the pigeons. Moreover, from the top pair 511/13 x 888/10, no less than 18 offspring are in this auction!”
