Frankie De Gendt: speed king of Waasland

Setting down dream results with few pigeons is the weekly fare that this thoroughbred "Quiévrainist" brings to the table!

With a limited colony to the top of Belgium! Dream results with few pigeons are the trademark here, which again resulted this year in
3rd National Ace Bird Young Sprint KBDB ’24 with BE24-4171441
7th National Ace Bird Old Sprint KBDB ’24 with BE18-4172811

On the banks of the Scheldt, we find the East Flemish municipality of Temse, still a true green lung where it is pleasant for walkers and cyclists. Here we also find the home base of a true Quiévrainist: Frankie De Gendt. For years the man to beat in his favorite game. A tough selection now results in a stock of pigeons that have elevated flying to a form of art, but also a strain that achieves towering prize percentages. This mix of top prizes and high price percentages makes Frankie a recurring customer at various championships, both locally, in the Waasland, provincially, and at the national level. Last season, Frankie managed to qualify again at the highest combat stage, both with the young and the old. Few can present these results!
That these national titles are not isolated is proven by the previous years:

  • 2nd National Ace Bird Young Sprint KBDB ’16 with BE16-4017607
  • 4th National Champion Sprint Old & Yearlings (1+2) ’20
  • 5th National Ace Bird Old Sprint KBDB ’20 with BE17-4090716
  • 11th National Ace Bird Old Sprint KBDB ’20 with BE18-4172811
  • 12th National Ace Bird Old Sprint KBDB ’20 with BE16-4017612

These ace pigeons now run like a common thread through Frankie’s current colony. They form the basis for the future. Here, we would like to further elaborate on the pigeons that have flown these titles together.

The present banner bearers of the loft:
BE18-4172811 “Lotte 811”
This wonder hen flew no less than 17 first prizes and 67 times per 10!! This year she classified 4th provincially and 7th nationally. But she also managed to qualify as 11th national ace bird sprint in the 2020 season. It is rare for pigeons to qualify twice in their careers in national sprint championships. What makes her even more unique is that she achieves this title this year at the age of 6 against much younger competitors. Unseen! Also in the renowned Golden Ring competition of the Waasland, she remarkably scores 3 times gold and once silver.

That this hen has no stranger to top flying is clear. Her grandmother (612/16, "Fast 612") was herself already 12th National Ace Bird Sprint KBDB ’20 and flew 14 times the 1st prize and 60 times per 10. The apple clearly does not fall far from the tree; in fact, her offspring also seem to have inherited her flying abilities. A grandchild wins this year the title 3rd National Ace Bird Young Sprint KBDB ’24 !!
