Dear pigeon lovers, allow me to introduce myself:
Geert Schotte, residing in Ophasselt, 45 years old and a pigeon enthusiast since childhood.

I grew up in the pigeon club Koninklijke Duivenmaatschappij “De Vrijheid” (The Cat) Ophasselt, which was previously run by my parents together with family, including my godfather, Walter Poisson.
My godfather was the driving force behind our pigeon society for many years and he, along with my father who was always the dedicated pigeon handler of the club, taught me the tricks of the trade.
Unfortunately, my father passed away several years ago, and my godfather died in March of this year.
Fortunately, we have a fantastic team of board members and staff in our society, enabling us to continue everything smoothly.
I have been the president of the pigeon society De Kat – De Vrijheid for a number of years, with more than 250 members and over 15,000 sold rings.
I also try to support the surrounding clubs and connections, and they all know how to easily reach me with problems or questions.
I am not afraid to roll up my sleeves and take on pigeons myself, handle all sorts of administration, and so on.
The pigeon world holds little to no secrets for me as an enthusiast, board member, staff, and president, and I know from experience that “pigeon fanciers” are certainly not the easiest audience, with many questions and remarks.
Thanks to my professional career, I am fluent in French, English, and of course Dutch, and I have a wealth of experience in finance & IT and personnel management.
I have always developed strategic projects, especially in the context of purchasing and selling larger companies for my Japanese employer, which has provided me with valuable insights and experience in setting up and managing corporate structures and adapting or integrating them. For my work, I spent several years in Spain and France, where I had the opportunity to fully utilize my talents as a bridge builder between different cultures and business insights. In my opinion, these professional talents and experiences can be more than useful in the pigeon sport.
My intention is to give our “pigeon” region (Dender region) a clear voice at the provincial level and to defend my vision of pigeon sport in general in any potential national mandate within the KBDB.
My focus within any potential provincial and/or national mandate will be on:
(1) Fair sport
Ensuring a fair sport with a well-thought-out release strategy across the provinces, along with effective controls (in the club, during transport, at the release, and at the fancier's home), and simplifying the linked disciplinary procedures.
(2) Well-functioning pigeon entry venues
Providing support to all pigeon entry venues to ensure their correct functioning.
(3) Modern organization and structure of the KBDB
Adapting the organization of the KBDB as a non-profit organization to fit the contemporary context, where a balance between folklore and professionalism must be found.
(4) Future of pigeon sport
Ensuring the future of our sport by bringing it positively to the general attention.
