With almost a lifetime of pigeon racing under his belt, we can safely say that John Smits has become a fixture in the international long distance scene. This now retired roofer from Grevenbicht in Dutch Limburg travelled the world for years, judging tens of thousands of pigeons from the greatest fanciers who ever lived. His passion for long distance racing brought him into contact with top fanciers such as Jos Martens, Lei Martens, Jan Stevens, Smeets-Penris, van Heumen, Lei Kurvers and many others. Based on this, John carefully built up his own stock of pigeons for extremely long distance racing. A stock characterised by supple plumage, enormous recuperative powers and, above all, the determination to return home in the toughest conditions. The results in his own loft speak for themselves, and his close friend Wim Breemen can also attest to the quality boost provided by the Smits pigeons. John himself has to take it a bit easier for health reasons, which is why Pitts is offering a batch of pigeons from this Dutch grandmaster for the first time.
